Re: Good luck

Tamara says good luck too, but since she is a Georgina princess (in a Lermontov epos) she hopes that the russian continent will win the battle. and then the real war will begin... even if we don't have a navy...!

Ok, I don't get this one.... You want Russians to win because you are a Georgian princess? That made little sense...

I would start by deploying it in the Black Sea and make a surprise attact on Istanbul. From there you can make your empire! :)

Thanks for the good wishes!

Bad strategy! You must look for the real opportunities. Turkey has the largest standing army in NATO (USA being first) That means that they have the most powerful military in Europe after Russia.

However there is a way:

1. Greece and Turkey are in an arms race. Yes, they blow away too much of their money on the military because those two nation is just a war waiting to happen.

2. Both are supported by NATO because both are members of it. That means that in times of war NATO will not be able to pick a side to support.

3. They have disputed territory in Aegean sea meaning that if we invade those then neither country will be able to react because the other one will see it as an act of war. However I think one of them would take initiative meaning that we may ignite the spark that lead to war between NATO members (oh delightful!)

Only then when 2 armies clash in a bloody war can we have any chance to start an empire there. BTW, could this be a reason for end of NATO in the future? USA sides with Turkey and EU countries with Greece so the NATO is disbanded? Maybe have like a prolouge tutorial mission in aegean sea?

Oh and BTW I will never accept Istanbul! It's either Byzantium or Constantinople! This city belongs to us Europeans, not Asians! Hopefully we will take it back some day.

Re: Good luck

hehehe... Engaged and exiting ideas! However, regardless the situation, I fear the Oksøy will fall a bit short as a dominating factor in an Aegean clash. It would at least require a feat of military deception genius and historic proportions (and who’s to say that’s not gonna happen).

The NATO split over a Turkish - Greek war is an interesting one. We still fail to see the potential for a true EU/US split over it alone, for that other interests are just too big, but as a factor of many, a piece of a larger puzzle, it could well be a decisive factor. A memo has gone to the Future-History Department, and we'll see what they spin from it.

TTG is by default neutral, so the naming of said city is left up to anyone individually. :)

Re: Good luck

In Hughes' Fleet Tactics (recommened for any naval strategy fan) the scenario the author uses to highlight his wishes for future technology and tactics for the US Navy is precisely a Turkish-Greek war.

Such an event could certainly lead to the EU-US split that Naval War's political background requires, so that's a great idea I think. It also opens up for a nice little prequel :)
